ACP Journal Club. A 12-month, in-home exercise program delayed functional deterioration in Alzheimer disease.

چکیده
Main results At 12 months, home-based exercise delayed deterioration in overall physical and motor functioning compared with usual care; groupbased exercise and usual care did not differ (Table). The 3 groups did not differ for cognitive skills (P = 0.78) or mobility (P = 0.86). Falls were least frequent in the home-based exercise group and most frequent in the usual-care group (Table); the 3 groups did not differ for hospitalizations (P = 0.63) or fractures (P = 0.88).

I n t e r v e n t i o n Patient–caregiver dyads were allocated to the Reducing Disability in Alzheimer Disease (RDAD) program (n = 76) or routine medical care (n = 77). Introduction: Previous studies have shown that exercise enhances cognitive and functional capacities in patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD). In this study, we investigated the effect of long-term (60 days) and short- term (10 days) exercise on the spatial memory deficits in an animal model of AD. Methods: Fifty male rats were divided into 5 groups 1) intact, 2) sham, 3) sham-Alzheimer 4) ...
